If you play a contact sport, you are at a higher risk to withstand a concussion. During play, a concussion could be caused by a fall or a collision with another player, hitting the ground too hard, running in to a goal post or even being hit by a fast moving ball. However, concussions can occur anywhere, not just while playing a sport. The reason there are strict laws for bike helmets is because so many head injuries and fatalities were caused due to accidents on a bicycle.
It is very important to tell a responsible adult, coach, teacher or parent if you hit your head in any circumstance. Many people feel fine initially and do not realize the extent of their injury.
KNOW THE FACTS: Young children and teens are more likely to sustain a concussion and take longer to recover than an adult
